Bitaxe Turbo Touch: Is the touchscreen Bitcoin miner really worth it?

Short & honest: A US manufacturer is launching a solo miner with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, the Bitaxe Turbo Touch. 2.15 TH/s, 43 watts, 35 dB, starting at $250. Sounds like progress. If you properly calculate the German electricity bill and the actual chances of winning, what remains of the progress is mainly a pretty screen. The Bitaxe Gamma 601 costs less than half to operate, is quieter, and only gradually changes the odds.

A touchscreen on a Bitcoin miner. You have to read that sentence twice to realize how unnecessary it actually sounds. And yet, the Texan manufacturer Solo Satoshi built exactly that with the Bitaxe Turbo Touch: a device that displays the Bitcoin price, block height, and its own hashrate on a 4.3-inch color display, while two ASIC chips quietly search for the next block in the background. I looked at the specifications directly from the manufacturer, did the math, and compared it with what has been quietly hashing away in our living room for months.

What is the Bitaxe Turbo Touch, and why is the community talking about it?

The Turbo Touch runs on the open Bitaxe GT-801 platform and uses two BM1370 ASIC chips, the same chip found in the industrial Antminer S21 Pro. According to the manufacturer, it delivers 2.15 TH/s at around 43 watts in standard operation; overclocked at 750 MHz and 1,200 mV, it should achieve over 3.06 TH/s. Three fixed power modes are available: Low with 2.34 TH/s at just under 41 watts, Medium with 2.44 TH/s at around 45 watts, and High with 2.67 TH/s at about 48 watts. The device is said to be around 35 decibels loud, measured at standard settings. The Turbo Touch was originally priced at $325; currently (as of my retrieval on July 21, 2026), it is reduced to $250 on the manufacturer's website. The firmware is completely open, AxeOS for the mining part, BAP-GT-TOUCH for the display, both repositories are publicly available on GitHub.

Bitcoin Magazine covered the launch and quoted Solo Satoshi founder Matt Howard saying that every line of code between the ASIC chip and the screen is openly viewable. According to the report, the device consumes about 43 watts and should cost about $3.70 per month at US electricity prices. This is honestly communicated, but calculated with US electricity prices, which cost less than a third of the German kilowatt-hour.

What does the Bitaxe Turbo Touch really cost in a German household?

Let's calculate it with German figures. 43 watts times 24 hours times 365 days results in 376.68 kilowatt-hours per year. Multiplied by the usual German household electricity price of about 0.35 euros per kilowatt-hour, this comes to 131.84 euros per year, or 10.99 euros per month. For comparison: The Bitaxe Gamma 601 with its around 17 watts is about 52 euros per year, or 4.34 euros per month. The Turbo Touch thus costs a good 2.5 times more to operate.

The purchase price becomes more opaque. From the current Bitcoin to US dollar exchange rate (around 65,167 dollars) and Bitcoin to euro (56,055.42 euros according to BTC-ECHO, as of July 21), an exchange rate of approximately 0.86 can be derived. The 250 dollars thus roughly correspond to 215 euros, the regular 325-dollar version to around 280 euros. Not included: import VAT and shipping from Houston, Texas, as the Turbo Touch does not have an EU warehouse. Those who order in Germany usually pay more than the pure dollar figure suggests and wait longer for a package than would be necessary if it were available on a local shelf.

Does the touchscreen actually improve the chances of winning?

Here it gets honestly uncomfortable, because yes, more hashrate means more chances, but not to the extent that the marketing text suggests. With a current network hashrate of around 1.0 zettahash per second (bandwidth according to CoinWarz between 900 and 1,110 exahash, depending on the daily snapshot mid-to-late July) and 52,560 possible blocks per year, the Bitaxe Gamma 601 with its 1.3 TH/s has a chance of around 1 in 14,635 per year, with a bandwidth of 1 in 13,170 to 1 in 16,240 depending on the network snapshot. The Turbo Touch in standard operation with 2.15 TH/s comes to about 1 in 8,850 per year, overclocked to 3.06 TH/s to about 1 in 6,220. That is genuinely better, no question.

But look at the relation: The Turbo Touch costs approximately 1.4 to 1.9 times as much as a Bitaxe Gamma 601 to purchase and 2.5 times as much to operate, for an improvement in annual chances by a factor of 1.65 in standard mode. The chance improves slower than the money spent on it. This is not a criticism of the device, it's simply how hashrate economics works: every additional terahash costs more than the previous one brought, because the network as a whole continues to grow.

Is more hashrate automatically more suitable for the living room?

I've had the Bitaxe Gamma 601 next to my monitor for months. It's barely audible at standard load, and with the Noctua cooling upgrade, it registers under 20 decibels according to our own measurements, which is roughly equivalent to the rustling of leaves. The manufacturer states the Turbo Touch produces 35 decibels at standard settings, which is objectively still quiet, but already in the range of a quiet conversation or a gently running refrigerator. Then there's the screen itself: It shows eight views, hashrate graph, block clock, price ticker, WLAN settings. Nice to look at, no question, but a screen that continuously glows doesn't fit into every bedroom, and it consumes additional electricity, which is already included in the wattage.

What actually convinces me about the Turbo Touch: it's just as open as our own hardware. No closed ecosystem, no app requirement, full control over the firmware. This is a value that the entire Bitaxe family shares, regardless of the manufacturer, and one that I don't want to downplay. Only the question of whether an additional screen truly increases the fascination of mining or just the electricity bill is something everyone has to answer for themselves.

Bitaxe Turbo Touch or Bitaxe Gamma 601: Which one is right for you?

If a live dashboard directly on the device is more important to you than every euro of electricity costs, and you are willing to wait for US shipping with import duties, the Turbo Touch is an exciting device with genuinely open hardware behind it. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a quiet, affordable, and predictable entry, both in terms of purchase and operation, that is available directly from the shelf without import duties, the Bitaxe Home Solo Miner remains the more sensible choice. Neither device changes the fundamental truth of solo mining: it is a lottery ticket with a learning curve, not a business model.
