The Antminer S19k Pro is a Bitcoin ASIC miner from Bitmain with 120 TH/s hashrate, 2,760 watts power consumption, and an efficiency of 23.0 J/TH. This gives it 92 times the computing power of a Bitaxe Gamma 601, but it also consumes 162 times the electricity.

In short: If you solo mine, the S19k Pro will cost you around 6.90 Euros in electricity for every Euro of statistical earnings. For the Bitaxe Gamma 601, it's 3.95 Euros. Nevertheless, the block chance is massively higher for the larger device. This is not about chance, but about proportionality.

How much electricity does an Antminer S19k Pro actually consume per year?

2,760 watts in continuous operation results in 24,178 kilowatt-hours per year. At a German household tariff of 0.35 Euros per kilowatt-hour, that's around 8,462 Euros. Annually.

This is offset by the statistical annual yield. With a difficulty of 127,479,855,693,691 and a block value of around 176,300 Euros, the S19k Pro's solo block chance is about 1:145 per year. Mathematically, this corresponds to an expected value of approximately 1,218 Euros. The block itself consists of 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees; the Euro value is exchange rate dependent as of August 10, 2026.

Why does a 1.3 TH device economically outperform a 120 TH miner?

The Bitaxe Gamma 601 consumes 17 watts. That's 148.9 kilowatt-hours per year, or about 52 Euros. Its solo block chance is about 1:13,355 per year, with a statistical annual yield of approximately 13.20 Euros. Ratio: 3.95 to 1.

Both devices are loss-making ventures in solo mining if you calculate the pure expected value. The difference is the order of magnitude: 52 Euros lottery ticket per year versus 8,462 Euros. And the Bitaxe is more efficient, at 13.1 J/TH versus 23.0 J/TH.

I say this explicitly without sugarcoating: If you want the highest absolute chance of finding a block, buy the S19k Pro. 92 times the hashrate actually means a 92 times higher probability of success. The Bitaxe does not win on chance. It wins on purchase price, operating costs, and the simple question of whether the device can be kept in a residential apartment.

What still makes the S19k Pro interesting within the S19 series?

This is where it gets technically exciting. The S19k Pro delivers exactly the same 120 TH/s as the older S19j Pro+, but only requires 23.0 J/TH instead of 27.5 J/TH. That's about 16 percent less energy for identical computing power within the same product family.

This dispersion is the actual learning effect: the model name says almost nothing about efficiency. Two devices with the same hashrate can differ in operating costs by several hundred Euros per year. If you buy used, you have to read the datasheet, not the type designation.

The Bitaxe Gamma 601 is significantly lower at 13.1 J/TH, thanks to a single BM1370 chip without the losses of a kilowatt power supply.

Can an S19k Pro be kept in a normal apartment?

No. And that's not a matter of taste. An S19k Pro operates with industrial fans designed for throughput, not acoustics. Qualitatively described: The device generates a continuous, broadband noise that is more reminiscent of a server room ventilation system than a household appliance in terms of volume and character. This is unacceptable in a rented apartment.

In addition, there are 2.76 kilowatts of waste heat that needs to go somewhere. In winter, that's a heater; in summer, it's a problem. The Bitaxe Gamma 601 emits 17 watts, which is equivalent to a small LED lamp.

Is the S19k Pro worthwhile for pool mining instead of solo?

In a pool, the distribution changes, not the physics. The expected value remains the same, it just comes in many small payouts instead of one rare big hit. With 8,462 Euros in electricity costs and around 1,218 Euros in statistical annual earnings, the business remains negative at 0.35 Euros per kilowatt-hour. An S19k Pro only becomes profitable with industrial electricity prices, not at household tariffs.

What is the chance of finding a block with a Bitaxe?

Why is efficiency more important than hashrate?

Because hashrate determines how often you roll the dice, and efficiency determines what each roll costs. The S19j Pro+ and S19k Pro roll the dice equally often, but the k Pro pays 16 percent less per roll. This leverage is precisely what determines over the years whether a device remains operable.
